Taking a break from studying to write a short post about Marie Antoinette; a tragic, misunderstood and very interesting character for who had been thrust into a situation that eventually became out of her control.
Marie Antoinette was the Queen of France at the outbreak of the French Revolution (1787 -1799). She is remembered for her extravagant lifestyle (lavish parties, expensive clothes and jewelleries) which made her unpopular with the French citizens, hence the nickname Madame Deficit. The traditional historian painted her as a shallow, weak and self-indulgent person which in my opinion failed to acknowledge her strength : courage.
Her extraordinary courage during the dark and tremendous days of the French Revolution must be admired. This is evident when most of Antoinette's captors had grown to respect and admire her courage during her captivity which eventually caused the leaders of the revolutionaries for whom had captured Antoinette's 10 year old son, to brainwash the boy and made him say that his mother had sexual intimacy with him along with other unspeakable charges during her trial in order to seal her fate.
On the morning of October 16th, 1973, the day of her execution, the priest who had accompanied her during her way to the guillotine whispered, 'This is the moment, Madame, to arm yourself with courage' , Marie Antoinette just turned to look at him and smile, 'Courage? The moment when my troubles are going to end is not the moment when my courage is going to fail me'.
And that was how extraordinary her courage was.
And that was how extraordinary her courage was.

Let's not forget the fact that she was the leading fashion icon and a trendsetter of her time. The soothing pastel colours combination with floral accents was inspiring! I shall write bout that in another post. ;)
